What Are Binaural Beats?

Binaural beats are an auditory illusion created when you hear two slightly different frequencies in each ear. Your brain processes these two tones and perceives a third tone - the "binaural beat" - that pulses at the difference between the two frequencies.

For example, if you hear 200 Hz in your left ear and 210 Hz in your right ear, your brain perceives a 10 Hz beat. This phenomenon, discovered in 1839 by physicist Heinrich Wilhelm Dove, has been studied extensively for its potential to influence brainwave patterns.
